In my work, I aim to explore gender stereotypes, societal pressures, and mental health through self-portraiture. My photography demonstrates a complex and ever evolving relationship with my surroundings.

I do this by showing various sides of my identity that are usually hidden from society. By visually manipulating my images, I am able to express my disapproval toward the way society places pressures on women to meet unachievable expectations.

In The Traditional Kitchen, I utilized layering to convey a multi-dimensional view of the “traditional” stay-at-home woman, who is clearly not satisfied with the stereotype given to her by society. Women are plagued with many stereotypes that they must overcome in order to reach their full potential.

I want to raise awareness of societal and mental health struggles among women by representing all of those who feel hidden in their community and put down because of their gender.
